Menopause
Menopause normally occurs in women around 45-55 years of age and may cause some of the most distressing symptoms. This interferes with their daily functioning and may even be debilitating for some women.
Causative Factors :
As per Classical Chinese Medicine, menopause is brought about by a deficiency of yin. In the yin-yang spectrum, women are considered to be predominantly of Yin origin. Throughout our lives, we use the yin energy to go through major developmental phases from puberty, to being sexually active, to childbirth, to being caretakers by dispensing our core energy. Hence as we age, menopause is a natural occurrence.
Some women benefit from Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) whereas others may not wish to take it or experience major side effects.
Methodology :
- Acupuncture treats menopausal symptoms, by balancing hormones, reducing hot flushes, insomnia, irritability, headaches, palpitation, night sweats and anxiety.
- A combination of needling and moxibustion helps invigorate the yin energy and helps make the transition smoother.
- In addition, counselling, appropriate nutritional advice, strength training exercises and breathing and relaxing techniques help improve the quality of life and inspire the person to take a positive perspective on the changes happening in their life.
As per Classical Chinese Medicine, regular Acupuncture sessions in the long run promote production and circulation of Qi, blood and body fluids as well as aid the transformation process by eliminating toxins through sweat, urine and faeces. This, in turn optimises immunity, improves appetite, energy levels and sleep, regularises bowel movements and helps manage stress better.
The safety profile of acupuncture is excellent, with very few adverse events when performed by a trained practitioner.
As no two patients are alike, the duration of the treatment vastly depends on the patient’s age, health habits and the severity of the condition.
